The weather appears to be improving after a brief (ahem..) period of rainfall, typical of a British summer. So now I'm whipping out those crazy relaxing songs, with their notoriuos slow tempos and laid back lyrics. This is a beaut. It's such a calm song, and is one of those where you are transported to a scene where you're drifting along on a boat on a lagoon, chewing on a single strand of wheat, and casually rocking to this steady beat. But at the same time, this song also has a slightly regretful, melancholic tone to it, which is probably down to Zola Jesus' vocals. They're beautiful, and this song is too: simple, calming but it evokes a certain emotion which is hard to put your finger on...
Another one of those relaxing songs! God I really am chilled at the moment... And another incredible female vocalist who's just appearing on the music scene. This song is more well known that the first on this list (as it's been plastered all over British Radio for the past fortnight), making it one of the few 'new finds' on the radio that I feel regretful I didn't find first. Probably why this track also provides a sense of regret and melancholy. Or maybe its just me!
Oh I love Foxes. Thats it, literally all I have to say. Every track produced is absolutely flawless, and this is no exception. I know I've already voiced my adoration of Foxes on this blog once, but it really is true. And this is their newest great track in my opinion of course)
I know I'm not alone in being a self confessed super fan of her first track 212, so when I heard that she'd released some new material I was on it like immediately. If you're expecting a similar song to 212 then prepare to be disappointed. After the beginning of the video below, there's none of the heave dance beats that featured heavily on 212but this song definitely focusses on her superior rap ability (Nicki who?) and less on a beat. After all, 212 was originally a dance track mixed by Lazy Jay which Banks took and rapped over. This is all her own work, and it really does show. She has such an amazing talent, and really satisfies my need for a decent female rap artist on my iPhone!
I admit I am somewhat of a dubstep fan, but I've never been into it everyday. My ability to like certain genres of music changes like the weather in England, and on the majority of days, heavy dubstep sends me into a rage, and not a good one. So on those 'anti-dubstep' days, I like to listen to this song. It's a little bit old (released in February last year) but it's oh so good, and (in my mind) it falls under the dubstep genre. Some may disagree, but that's what I think. It's a great song, and should definitely have more recignition!
